Crime and deviance: Growing Old in America’s Prisons

America imprisons more people than any other country on earth. Prison populations soared in the 1980’s and 1990’s due to a combination of higher crime rates and longer sentences. Around a tenth of those prisoners are serving life sentences.

Now many of those prisoners have become elderly. What are the implications?

Not easy viewing, but a very interesting issue facing US penal system.
